at this pair. mitt romney says he's pro life but doesn't intend to do anything that's pro life. ryan says he's pro-life and ments it. he and his cohorts would proceed to ban it in every sate they could closing abortion rights down in to as few states as possible. in this way they would make banning of i have a bortion a matter of geography. the more states they could get to pass a ban, the further a woman would have to travel to have one. presumably abortion would be safe and legal in cowsal states like new york and california, live in the middle however and you'd have to leave not just your town and state but maybe the entire region to get to a state where your decision would be respect. this is ryan's plan for american women. but he doesn't stop there. he's also a co-sponsor of the personhood bill that would declare a fertilized human egg a person with all the 14th amendment riments of life, liberty, and property as well. it would not just outlaw abortion, it would make it murder. joining me to absorb those facts are alex wagner and ron reagan, author and radio talk show host from seattle.
of what you see in the polls. this momentum that's very much on the side of mitt romney. and paul ryan. so it is very much up to vice president biden to take a shot here and try to stop some of that momentum because if you see a win by paul ryan, it's covered as a one-two punch. the momentum will continue. we know talking to some of the vice president's aides that he's going to come out swinging. this's the expectation, to be on offense. we've been told he's eager, feeling good and trying to draw a contrast. when you look at the tiny table in the picture, brooke, it is a pretty intimate setting. if he's going to get in to it and draw a contrast, that's sort of code for confrontation. we'll see if he makes good on the promise of the team. >> bring yaannbrianna, do they say something memorable, as in not in a good way memorable? >> reporter: you'll remember he's sort of known as a bit of a gaffe machine. puts in his foot in his mouth from time to time. he said that the middle class buried for four years and that was something that the romney campaign just jumped on. the thing is, while he's

performance versus governor romney and ryan were for posterity. opportunities, a revitalization of the free market situation. it's a very clear contrast. bill: i asked governor strickland how much debate number one set back their momentum. he kicked it to the side and i expected him to with regard to that. what do you think that first debate did in order to shape and define the race that leads us to tonight in danville. >> i think that that debate certainly energized the campaign and gave governor romney a great deal of momentum. i don't think there is any doubt about it. i think people saw that governor romney was very much in command of the facts, more so than the president was. he made a very compelling argument for how he can get the economy moving again e. tkeufd it in a way that was very respectful for the office of the presidency without being inch dim natured by the man who holds the office e. dead it in way that a lot of americans had respect for. i think it was a terrific performance. the important thing was the underlying substance. governor romney has a view of posterity. bill:

politics. in wisconsin that is where paul ryan is from, mitt romney's running mate. that is only a 2-point race in wisconsin. you have to remember, this is state where back in june there was recall election against scott walker. he won the race. he demoralized the democrats. a lot of activists were saying because president obama didn't come strong in favor of the democratic candidate, it demoralized a lot of democrats there. turnout could be very important. if the democratic turnout is not high, you might see mitt romney win that state. >> patti ann: meanwhile, florida where he is romney is enjoying a 2% advantage. we have david plouffe saying, we are going to get the senior citizens and hispanics. we are going to get florida? >> it's a crucial state for romney to win, one of two of most crucial states, florida and ohio. there is another poll out, tampa bay times poll that shows romney is up by 7. obama campaign disputes the poll that the hispanic voters are not as close as that poll shows. that is pretty significant lead in florida with rom up 7. he certainly as the momentum. that would b

for the next four years of romney/ryan in the white house. dennis: what about our vice president? what does he need to do? >> the first thing he cannot do is have a gas. team needs to get the obama campaign back on track. it is a tall order for him. he has been in the senate for a long time and vice president for four years and a senior statesman who will be on stage. i do think the pressures on him to hit a home run tonight and even saturday night live goofed on him. if you're counting on joe biden to save you the campaign is in trouble. dennis: by the same token given expectations for joe biden, can he win the debate by avoiding a gaffe? >> he is going to try to make all look like the count with a green eyeshade that isn't caring and go on the attack. the obama campaign has signaled they are going to go on the attack tonight and in the next presidential debate and if he does come across without making a mistake he will look like having a good night. dennis: the vice presidential candidates have to talk about their leader. not about themselves. yet i can't think of another debate where one of

was able to do last week. he also cam out aggressively against the romney policies by going after paul ryan very strongly. that is also something we didn't see last week from president obama. but congressman ryan really held his own tonight. i think they did an effective job. of course as i said earlier. both side are claiming victory. this is really setting up a narrative going into next week's debate between the president and mitt romney. >> draw probably is the best word, karen. do you think from your perspective, this changes the race in any significant way? or is this kind of a footnote? >> yeah, it is unlikely it will shake up this race in any major way. because vice presidential debates don't usually do that. remember this is really all about the person at the top of the ticket. president obama/mitt romney. what this does do, give democrats a little bounce in their step. there were some very nervous democrats over the last week so despondent over the president's performance didn't want to have to come out and see vice president biden lose. they would be 0-2. there are four debates. t
